As Holcim’s commercial and geopolitical landscape evolved, they quickly outgrew their on-prem technology infrastructure (which required significant time and effort to maintain) and set their sights on the cloud. In 2016, Holcim’s EMEA Digital Center implemented Salesforce to unlock cloud-native flexibility and enable rapid responses to business needs. However, Holcim still needed a solution to automate Salesforce deployments. Enter Copado.
After Holcim EMEA Digital Center migrated their on-prem customer data repository to Salesforce, the manufacturer could finally eliminate pesky maintenance and stitch together 360-degree customer journeys for multi-cloud operations that integrate with platforms like SAP.
But to unlock the full potential of Salesforce, Holcim EMEA Digital Center needed an efficient, agile development process to deliver new capabilities on the cloud and enhance existing ones.
Trading a Painstaking Process for Agile Salesforce Development
Since Holcim EMEA Digital Center used Change Sets for Salesforce deployments, they couldn’t achieve the velocity or scale they needed. Releases took several days and required significant resources to identify code conflicts and run end-to-end regression tests.
Despite the painstaking process and manual measures, Holcim EMEA Digital Center would still frequently run into issues and incidents after release.

The Solution
The Copado DevOps Platform enables Holcim to visualize parallel development pipelines and verify release contents before production merges. With Copado, Holcim identifies conflicts early on instead of waiting for issues to appear during the release process. And if an issue does happen, Copado tracks and stores all changes in a code repository — helping Holcim rollback changes in a flash.
While other DevOps tools require developers to know Java or Python, Copado’s low-code UI makes it easy for business users to modify screen layouts and master other changes without hours of hand-holding.
The Future
Before Copado, Holcim took a couple of days to tackle the preparation portion of a Salesforce release. But now with Copado, the company can complete an entire release in just four hours.
Copado automates end-to-end regression testing, code backup, and conflict resolution before deployments to make the release process more secure and reliable. Copado also enables back promotions and simplifies profiles and PS management to help cross-functional teams collaborate seamlessly.
