BCITO (Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation) is New Zealand’s largest provider of construction trade apprenticeships. Founded in 2001, the Wellington-based company was created to serve the country’s building and construction sector. BCITO’s training programs include trade skills like carpentry, glazing, painting, stone masonry and bricklaying.
BCITO started using Salesforce as part of its digital strategy to move from on-prem systems to cloud-based applications. They started looking for an efficient solution with easy-to-use features and Salesforce checked all the boxes.

BCITO was ready to migrate from on-prem systems to cloud-based applications. They wanted an efficient solution with easy-to-use features — and Salesforce checked all the boxes.
At the time, BCITO had just three people on the development team: A senior tester, a system admin and a developer. The development team was at the infancy of their DevOps journey. They hadn’t implemented best practices or built a consistent process.
As a result, it took them 6-8 hours to manage deployments and up to two months to merge Salesforce changes due to manual processes and limited team bandwidth.
The challenges for the development team intensified as they struggled to run end-to-end testing once they started integrating Salesforce with other platforms like JIRA and AccelQ.
Every time they had to do a production release there was a lot of stress in the team due to rollbacks and redeployments. They had to spend long nights and lots of weekend work.
To mitigate the hardships and heavy workload, BCITO’s development team started to explore the DevOps marketplace for a tool to speed up releases and automate end-to-end testing.
